Client-Centred Individual Psychotherapy
People seek psychological treatment for any number of reasons: work stress, relationship difficulties, childhood trauma, adjusting to terminal or chronic illness, death of a loved one. They may be suffering with anxiety, panic, depressed feelings, irritability, poor sleep and appetite, difficulty concentrating, or problems making decisions. They may have noticed difficulties in their relationship with their spouse or partner, children, friends and family, or in their work environment.
Psychotherapy is often beneficial in these situations. By talking over problems with a trusted professional, people can learn new ways to cope with stress, to reduce their depressed or anxious feelings, to improve their relationships with others, and to improve their ability to function at work and at home.
You do not need a referral from your family physician to access psychological services. You may contact our office directly to schedule your first appointment. We may ask you to complete a brief questionnaire outlining your background information and current difficulties. At your initial session, we will collect a complete history and description of your problems. We will help you define your treatment goals and explain how psychotherapy aims to help meet those goals. Treatment appointments typically last one hour and are scheduled as often as needed, usually on a weekly or biweekly basis. We may ask your permission to consult with your family physician regarding other forms of treatment. We may ask you to read relevant articles or complete homework assignments that help you transfer the skills learned in psychotherapy to everyday life. |
